When it comes to wedding photography, the best photos often aren't the perfectly posed ones. They're the moments that happen naturally throughout the day.

That's exactly what draws couples to Kelly of Kelly Knaub Photography. Based in York, Pennsylvania, Kelly is known for her true-to-life photography style and her ability to help couples feel comfortable enough to simply enjoy being together.

I recently connected with Kelly to learn more about her journey into wedding photography, what inspires her work, and the advice she has for couples planning their wedding day.

From Video Editor to Wedding Photographer

Although photography had been a lifelong passion, Kelly spent 15 years working as a video editor before deciding to pursue photography full-time.

After being laid off in 2016, she took the opportunity to explore different types of photography and quickly realized wedding photography was where her heart was.

"I found that what I was most passionate about was wedding photography."

A Photography Style Focused on Real Moments

Kelly describes her style as "true to life and in the moment."

Rather than forcing moments, she prefers to observe and document the connections between couples as they naturally unfold throughout the day. Her inspiration comes directly from the people she photographs and the unique stories that brought them together.

Helping Couples Feel Comfortable in Front of the Camera

One thing that sets Kelly apart is the emphasis she places on building relationships with her couples before the wedding day.

Every wedding package includes an engagement session, giving couples a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera while creating photos that reflect who they are. Whether that's grabbing coffee together, playing cornhole, sharing sushi, or revisiting a meaningful location, Kelly encourages couples to build their session around what makes their relationship unique.

She also believes the best wedding photos happen when couples have room to simply enjoy the day.

"When couples feel rushed, it shows in the photos. When there's breathing room built into the day, you get natural smiles, relaxed body language, and real moments that don't feel forced."

For Kelly, great wedding photography isn't about perfect poses. It's about creating an experience where couples can be fully present with each other.
