Scott Josuweit is a York, PA local photographer with a unique style. His photographs boast bold color and contrast while capturing authentic, timeless moments. A 12-year veteran in the wedding industry, he has built a well established business and reputation in Central Pennsylvania.
From the first moment Scott picked up a camera, he knew he was a natural. Handling a manual camera came easy to him, “just a simple math equation”. What started as a side gig of wanting to strictly photograph animals, steadily evolved into a passion and a career beyond what Scott could have ever imagined. Ultimately, bringing Scott to where he is now, doing what he loves, and that’s shooting weddings.
Scott, a former teacher, didn’t see himself doing anything else. During his teaching career, he took up photography as a hobby by joining a photography group run by a wedding photographer. In this group, he was given the opportunity to shadow the wedding photographer while photographing a wedding. Scott signed up, thinking it would be a great, low pressure way to see this in action. What he didn’t realize was that the wedding photographer would move to Texas before the wedding, the rest of his group would bail and, because he was distracted by his full-time teaching career, he didn’t realize he was the couple’s only option a month before the wedding. When they asked for his help, Scott obliged. It was then he realized that photographing people wasn’t so bad. And from that moment on, his photography was less geared toward animals and the focus was on people.
One wedding shot by Scott in 2018 not only marked the beginning of his full-time photography career, but completely shifted his perspective on what’s important when it comes to shooting weddings, as well as life in general. The wedding was that of Rachel and Tony, and it was a beautiful day. Scott had grown close with the couple, taking both their engagement and wedding photos. Rachel had battled cancer since childhood and after the wedding the cancer made a comeback, and she passed away less than a year after her and Tony wed. Scott had established a tight bond with the couple throughout their journey and was both surprised and deeply moved when Tony asked him to go to Hawaii with him for the couple’s 1-year wedding anniversary. It had been Rachel’s request that Scott go with Tony and their family to document them as they spread her ashes on the beach where the couple first met. Although this was a big ask, Scott felt honored. He agreed and on the last day of teaching, Scott walked out of the classroom and boarded the plane to Hawaii.
For Scott, his experience with Rachel and Tony will stay with him forever. He learned as a wedding photographer that although it’s easy to get wrapped up in the glitz and glam of the wedding day, what it all boils down to is the people. Scott is there to capture their stories and the connections between them. He understands that, as a wedding photographer, he is given exclusive access to couples that other vendors aren’t privy to, and he does not take that for granted.
The connections that Scott makes with his couples goes beyond the wedding. He often finds himself invited back to document more of the couple’s big life moments, from engagements, to weddings to babies, Scott is there to capture all of it.
He always tells his couples, “These photos are the least valuable they will ever be right when I take them.” And he couldn’t be more right. Scott understands just how powerful capturing a moment can be, and it’s clear by his portfolio that he puts his heart and soul into capturing each of those moments for all of his clients.
